New owner of a 88 civic DX hatch

Post by rdnkrice »

Hey guys, i'm new to the Honda world here and I just picked up an 88 hatch for 400 :D
so being that it was 400, go figure it doesn't run.. And I have a friend who has owned a Honda all his life, but he's out in the military so I cant really ask him, but I've tried to do some reading these past few hours on hondas and hear that they are very easy to swap motors in, so what all would i need to do so? Its the D15B2 motor, it has a D16Y7 head on it, and a few various mods, where do I start with bringing this car back to life?

From what the guy said, he bent the piston rod and it was knocking, and it has an oil leak, plus if I can recall he said....cylinder 1 had bad compression

Ok so yes sounds like it needs a replacement engine. the next question is what is your budget?

If it's just your daily I would find a good low mileage used engine at a wrecking yard, they run around $300 then go through all the gaskets, water pump, timing belt, hoses and so on. also a good time to do a valve adjustment. if you do the work your self you should be able to come in well under $1000.

For a daily driver I would, its going to get better gas mileage. The one upgrade I would suggest is converting it to multipoint fuel injection. you will loose a little fuel economy but gain a little more power.
