My 89 Si build!
This is a BIG copy/past!
Picked up this 1989 Civic SI for $1300.00. Not in to bad of shape but needs some love. The motor is fine and runs really good!!! But the body and the interior are to be less desired.
My plans are pretty simple. I want to keep the car nice and clean.
New paint
Re-do interior (all)
JDM front end
Suspension and bushings
Exhaust
I am undecided on the motor at this time. I have never been a SOHC guy, but I have a Z6 head laying around. Maybe a Mini-me or something like that with a little turbo. Keep it simple........... Well on to what I have so far.
Here is what she looked like when I brought her home.
And like always you can never find a good set of seats!!!
Let's get stripping!!!
Ok now for the inside. I like a different center console so I did this....
I am doing all the interior peaces black
I picked up some DA seats not knowing about the 88-89 seats being different!!!
My Z6 head that I will take to the machine shop.
I am trying to save as much as I can so I cleaned the tail lights.

Well that's all for now. I am going to work hard to get this done before the year end!!!
Head liner is done and Broadway is here.
Next is the seats. It's been a long time sense I've done seats but o well.
Got my Skunk2 shifter
Played with some v-covers
Cleaned up the head lights
Build my EF back strut bar, but I think I am going to go round tub. I want to build a c-pillar and with the seat belts being on the b-pillar I want to build one of them as well. I just don't think the SQ tub will looks so good on the C and B pillars.
Got my shifter bushings in
Head lights are done
Don't MISS SHIFT!!!
My door was pretty bad so I got another one lastnight.
Started my body work. Found there was some filler here on the side and the tail lights will not line up. So more body work for me!!!

My 89 Si build!
Ok v-cover is done
Strut bar is done
The exhaust is gone, that also came with the car.
I did that to the trunk just to keep it a little more quite in there so yes it's just sound deadening.
Here are a few pics of what I'v got done. I am looking for the black sun roof trim, but will have to use this for now.
Head liner is in
Until I find me some mesh I'll just have to clean these up
Got my lower tie bar done aswell
Well I just moved so I have not real place to work right now............I brought my shed with me so I can keep making my bars. I am going this weekend to look at a 30x30 and I can't wait!!!
Well here some pics of my mid wing thanks to "JDM son!"
1st I need to get the car to my new place.....So I went and picked up some cheep tires and I needed a little help lol
Got it home and cleaned out the inside
Put my seat in.........and yes there is a head rest just didn't put it on yet
Started doing some more body work, there was a small crack in the wing so I fixed that and sprayed on some high build primer. It's now ready for sanding
Pulled the stock wing off so I could paint it off the car and real clean it up
Here is how she sits now, and yes the wiper is off!!! lol
I also found that the driver side fender was molded to gather with Bondo. I don't think I have ever seen this much before lol I guess I'll be looking for a new fender now
Here's some of the work I got done. This part was really bugging me!!!
Started taking the car apart again to get it ready for paint
I'll be doing the driver side tuck first because, well it’s just easier!!
I drilled a new hole where I will put a rubber grommet
Shaved the trunk key hole
I picked up the 94-01 Teg center so this one will not be used, and I need to change up the arm rest because I was not getting any good feed back on the flames lol.
Well the driver side is about done, all heat shirked.
Not sure on this just yet. It's for the brakes. I guess I run this back into the car and back through the fire wall?
Started cleaning my DC center console, I need to pray it black so I was getting it all cleaned up. I get a lot of PM's about this, so here is what I do.
First I clean it with a good non wax soap, like dish soap. I clean it like 2 times. Then I'll clean it again with some AJAX. You do this to make sure all the grease and any dash protection it may have is off.
Then and this is almost a must, use spray Adhesion Promoter. This will help the paint stick to the plastic.
Next is the arm rest. This was what I had in my EG.
Old EG arm rest
Teg console is DONE!!!
A little more on the wires. This is going to take me some time. I don't really have anything to go off of so I am kinda guessing on where to run them.
I pulled off the injector plugs and took off all the loom. If I got this right, I will be running them under the intake manifold.

Well not a lot done, not as much as I wanted anyway. This seam sealer is a BITCH!!!
Got all the Susp stuff off........How do you get the inner tie rod off?
parts off
Most of my time was spent making an intake for my wife's 07 Dodge Ram HEMI!
All for now, will be working again tonight!
Got the front wheels wells done and I love this stuff!!! It's $10.00 a can but one can did both sides.
Now off with the brake lines and next removeing the rack.
Ok, rack is out, now I can't for the life of me see how you get the inner tie rod off unless there is some tool I need...........
I took pics of it all so I would remember how it went back.
I'm missing something here......I hope this comes in the urethane kit.
And this mother f'er!
Red for cleaning and start some filler and paint
Some stuff I sand blasted
Welded up the seams, well some of them. I started looking at how the hell am I going to get a grinder in some spots so I seamed up what I could and will use a nice slim bead of seam sealer on the other parts.
A little filler
Man this is a lot of work.....maybe more then I want lol
Front t-bar is done
I also had a little time to finish up my wife's intake. It was lagging a little with the short ram so I made a cold/ ram air. I still need to make the backing plate.

Looks good. Looks like you've put some hours in to it already with "some" more to go.
What did you use on those rear lights? Looks like it had a nice effect on them.

Amazing job, even more since you have done it all by yourself with some help from the little girl
.
Definitely you have plenty of material for the DIY section, specially the headliner, the armrest covering, the square strut and tie bars and some other things. Thanks for the tips on the dc center console painting, when I painted mine I missed the adhesion promoter part...and now paint is starting to peel off
.Did you used some clear after painting it or is just glossy paint?
On the valve cover letter design you stencil-painted it or it was screen printed? It looks very detailed for stencil.
And the blue lugnuts will look better with those wheels...

that was motivational. looks great. you should be proud.
as for the inner tie rod, if you look ( i can see it in the pic.) there are 2 tabs bent over. just use a chisel or something and straighten both wings back. its really rather simple.
its amazing what some people can do in a portable garage. for all the people with excuses, you should have the same SPIRIT this guy has.

Thanks a lot guys, it helps to have so many people backing me up!
I used the high gloss paint in the c-cons. Last time I used the flat and just didn't like it all that much.
Thanks for the in-fo on the tie rod!
More to come today!

The v-cover lettering was one of my stickers that I painted over then pulled of. Use a good stick and it works really good!
I have people saying go blue but more are saying go purple! I may just get both.
