Classic is back
What's up everybody? For all the new members, welcome to civic4g, the name's Classic. I'm from Atlanta but currently living in Columbus GA. I've been driving 4th gens ever since i started driving, which is about 10 years now (damn i'm getting old). I've owned 5 4g's and 1 1st gen civic. Currently i have a 1990 civic std which i use for getting around, and a 1991 civic dx hatch which i'll be covering the build in this topic. For all the civic4g "OG's" i'm sorry to keep you all waiting on this long overdue build thread. I've just been busy w/ other things like moving, getting ready to go to Iraq (sometime in October), playing COD4, working on the civic, and trying to find time to see friends and family before i deploy.
So here we go...
Here's how she looked a while back before i completely dismantled the whole car...

and a picture of the engine bay after the d16a6 swap a few years ago, notice the sloppy wiring and routing of vaccum hoses.
I purchased this car about 4 years ago. It had minor front end damage, 240k miles, the d15b smoked like a frieght train, the interior was trashed, and smelled like ass ( who could ask for better ).

Alrighty then, i can't find pictures of the dissasembly
the closest i can find are the pictures i took after putting the suspension back on after undercoating. On the undercoating i stole fustercluck's idea and used graphite wheel paint. Looks pretty good i think.

the suspension consist of:
civic sir rear brakes, brembo rotors, pci reat trailing arm spherical bearings, beaks lower tie bar, sir sway bar, blox rear lca's, skunk2 pro-s coliovers, 91 civic ex front brake swap, goodridge ss braided brake lines, etd traction bars, and skunk2 front upper control arms.
I took the rear croosmember off, painted it, then installed a remanufactured rack and pinion, and bolted on the rear hasport engine mount before reinstalling the crossmember back on the car.

also take note of various brackets, and studs that i shaved off.

this light comes in handy but man does it get hot

My daughter thought the civic would make a great play pin

also notice the stripped floors, done mostly with dry ice, whatever was left i got up with a wire wheel.

Once i got the engine bay cleaned up good, i spray bombed it satin

i'm happy with the outcome.

Back in july we moved to columbus, finally i have a garage, and my babies are lovin it

And so am i...

Before taking the car to my boy in atlanta, i had a few loose ends to tie up.

even bettie helped sand the inside.

then it was off to atlanta...

and the wifey followed behind...

Re: Classic is back
My good friend pat whom i've known since i was 10 took charge of the bodywork and paint.
I left the car with him, and after 3 weeks we took the car to his shop to paint.
Basically all there was to fix was little dings that seemed to show up everywhere once we started block sanding the car. Some of them were so small that they just blocked right out. I had to get a door at the junk yard cause my driverside door was fubar...

that's pat, his old man painted cars till he retired, pat will do the same.

dings wiped with filler then block sanded again and again

pat's lil boy,

as bad as it looks, it feels so smooth.

Re: Classic is back
Once the bodywork was done we took the car to pat's shop. First we primered, then painted the interior, sanded primer, sealed, sanded, painted and cleared. It was the longest saturday ever.

Once the primer had been sanded and all the parts prepped (bumpers, fillers, fenders, ect.) we taped everything up and pat did some last minute finishing touches before painting.

Pat can tape better than jenna jameson can suck d*$#

Paint mixed like the pros do it ( i geuss )

And don't forget to clean your guns

Once everything was ready to go , i was kicked out of the paint booth untill he was done. i snapped a few shots from outside the booth.

First he sprayed a black sealer, then the base coat, then clear.
the color is from lexus, don't know the name, but the code is 1go or 1g0. it's not black, it's a dark gray w/ green and purple flakes.

when the last coat of clear was sprayed, and given some time to dry, i was allowed to enter once again, and i literally almost wet myself. The feeling you get after you see your first "real" project get a "real" paint job is like no other feeling. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's better than sex, but it's up there.
And this is what i saw when i entered the booth...

and then the next day, we untaped it and brought it back to my dad's house, and then back to columbus the day after.

Thank you, glad you like it....
i'll be gone for a year, maybe longer but hopefully just a year. i'm trying to get the car back together and running before i leave, but it won't be finished until i get back next year. Got to have more time to tune the suspension, and work out whatever kinks the car has. also need a few more parts...

the primer and paint took only one very long saturday, the bodywork was done here and there over a 3 week period.

Still fairly good time. As I said above, it took me and my friend(who was the welder/painter) a good time. We started late Jan/early Feb and I got it on the road a good week a go.
The body work always takes more time than actually painting.

thank you, thank you, i too love the color. it's funny cause i originally was going to paint either, pearl white, Black, or a dark green, this color never even crossed my mind until pat showed it to me the same day he painted the car.
There are no 4g's in Iraq, damn i miss my babies...

There you go: click
Some pics, not all of them that good. But you get the idea of how things went.
Not as smooth as yours. we did have a lot of problems.
