Finally.... Daves buid thread

Postby Dave » Mon Nov 30, 2009 9:07 am

OK so some of you may have noticed that i have not bee around for about a week, but i have been real busy. with this ;D

got a new engine, D16y4 it was out of my mates mum's car, has 82,000Km's on it, the reason i got it was she was rear ended by a school bus and the car was fucked. so me being the generous guy i was offered to have it scraped if i could gut it out ;D . so i sold the Y1 i had sitting in my garage (which had about 150,000 ish on it and had a bit of a hard life). also got my quad pumper set up.

D16y4, this thing is in amazing shape, iv been in the car with jill (my mates mum) and she drives sooo slow its not funny, i don't think this thing would have ever gone over 3000rpm. plus her husband (my mates dad) is a mechanic, so i know that is has been looked after well.

iv re-built and cleaned these things, they are in real good condition, they have about 50,000Kms on them.

thats all i got for now, on the way i have a bisimoto cam and adjustable cam gear as well as some high comp pistons and a 3 layer head gasket. im also going to be doing a bit of engine work and getting a completely new induction kit and ignition system.

I was starting to worry about you... ;D Thought you might be working on a comodore or something ::)
Nice find on the engine, congrats! Still havn't seen a pic of the car yet, but I suppose once the engine is in we will at least get a couple of shots of the bay?

yeah i dont know what is going on with the pics, they are fine on photobucket ??? .

91B16AHB wrote:I was starting to worry about you... ;D Thought you might be working on a commodore or something ::)

no,not at the moment at least. i have been doing a bit of work on my mates at the moment ( but thats only because i use him to pull a trailer and get all my bits around for me :P ). iv done the whole commodore thing, i used to rally them with my uncle before i was able to drive on the roads (but im over 18 now ;D ) so iv spent allot of time with those things.

the plan is a high compression build with all the bits, its only a DD so no forced induction. but this should still shake up a few domestics ;) . Pics of the car to come, its a bit embarrassing at the moment, its had some bad luck in the uni car park and i haven't had time to fix it, but now im finished iv already found and prepped a front bar for paint, and got a brand new bonnet. im putting off the new paint job until iv got the engine finished and in the car. O0

also to show off how good condition this engine is in ill get a pic without the valve cover to give you some idea :thumbleft:

Nice...I know our octane ratings are different, but I think our 95 is about equivalent to your (and everyone else's) 98...that being said I'm usually lucky to find 93....
I hear out in Cali, you're lucky to find 91. :'(
WTF? why do we have to have different units of measurement than EVERYBODY!!!

the u.s. has the most fucked up measurements. METRIC SYSTEM FTW! here youre hard up to find 93 octane, 91 and 95 is pretty plentiful though. 110 by the barrel.
