Hello everyone!

I bought my first car about 3 weeks ago and have been hanging around here reading topics since then.

First of all I´d like to thank you guys, because I have got a lot of precious information from this forum.. And quite a few laughs too to be honest

Anyways, here´s my whip:

Image

It´s a 88' Civic HB with the D16A9 under the hood. It has almost 400.000 km on the dial, but it´s still in quite good shape. All the rust has been fixed last summer, and at the same time the whole car was painted.

The funny thing is that this car used to belong to my father about 15 years ago, and after that it has had just 2 owners.. My friends mom had it for 9 years before I bought it from her.

The car is going to get some new wheels, suspension and other parts before next summer. Untill that it´s going to stay pretty much the way it is now. I´m adding a small lip to the front and maybe take the current wheels to be painted.

Stay tuned on this one, I´ll add pics and info as progress is made!

Meanwhile, have a nice fall/winter, and I´ll see you around on the forums!

Welcome to the forum. A strange coincidence, that car is one of the cars I saw on sale when I was looking for a new 4G, I remember the plate. Small world. :D

That is a D16A9, wich is indeed a dohc engine. I have one as well remember. ;)
That is the EDM non-cat dohc engine that you found in the 1.6i-16 hb and CRX.

I will keep that in mind from now on. I'd rather die than go a day without learning something.

I have to add, though, that there has never been a d-series motor in America with two camshafts that I have ever been aware of. I'm not the god of Honda info, but I've never even heard of it being mentioned. I'm going to tell everyone I know and watch their heads explode as the foundation they base all their honda info around collapses.

At least now I have something to look forward to.

Well well, I have been working on the car for some time now, and it has some rust problems. (That´s not a suprise though..)

Finished striping the interior today. I need to drop out the gas tank this week, and next sunday I´m going to put the car on a trailer, and move it to another garage where I can weld the rusty spots.

Here are some pics of the damage, these are taken from the trunk and under the back seat where the biggest holes are.

Well well, I havn´t been updating the topic for a while, but that´s definately not because nothing has been going on at the garage.

The rust problem is pretty nasty in the rear end of the car, but I just got to get it done with. The car is going to sit on the garage over the winter and on that time I should be able to get the rust fixed, install some new suspension parts, regarnish the brakes and fit new discs and pads and fit the Mugen-look bodykit I got. When that lot has been done, the car will go to a paint shop and get a whole new coat of paint on it. If I have some time after those are done, I think I might open up the engine and atleast change the head seal and check that everything is OK.

I know you guys like pics so here are a few!

Some pics of the rear fender on the right side, the rusty bits have been cut out and a few sheets of new metal are standing by, ready to get welded on place.

This is a pic of the rear suspension arm bushing from the right side of the car, pretty nasty huh?

Also took a pic of the ID-Plate. Proves that it is a real D16A9, made at Suzuka

I also got another 4G to use as a donor car for any parts I may need, got it for 200€, and it is in complete running condition exept the little bumps on the right side. It also has a 4-1 header and a Martelius exhaust system, wich is going on my car.

Here are some pics of this beauty

Well, that´s it for now. I´ll update once something happens again.

C ya!

Well well, the project has been slowly crawling forward.
The welding has taken waaaay more time than I first imagined.

At one point it felt like the more I spent time in the garage, the more work I had in front of me because rust kept popping up in the most unimaginable places. Well anyways the welding bussiness is mostly over now.

Today I begun to see how the bodykit would line up.
The skirts need a little work before they´ll fit nicely, but nothing too big.
I had to cut the rear end of the skirt a bit to make it flex more because it was twisted. Once I get it to line up straight I´ll fill the cuts with some fiberglass.

Anyways here are some crappy pics taken with my cellphone.. Forgot my camera at home once again..

I know you guys aren´t big fans of bodykits and such, but IMO this kit suits the car nicely.. It´s pretty much the only one that does justice to the lines of a 4G. Don´t worry, I ain´t going to fit any rear wings or 18" chrome wheels...

BTW. I´m looking at a -91 CRX dash for cheap near me..
How big of a job is it to fit it in my Civic? I´ve heard wiring the newer meter-cluster is a pain in the ass, does anyone have a wiring diagram or something for swapping the clusters?

I´ve forgoten to update the topic for a while..
Not much going on at the garage right now though since I ...ked up my knee and shin while racing a week ago..

Last week I took apart the top of the engine to get it rebuilt. The Intake manifold was looking pretty dirty and two of the valves in Cyl 2 or 3 (can´t remember which one it was..) were burnt, so I guess it´s about time to do something about the valvetrain. Went around to the local honda dealer to ask how much would the cylinderhead-bolts and the exhaust, intake and headgaskets cost and the total was almost 400€... Nasty. :x

I´m also having a dillemma about which wheels I should buy for the car..
Here are the options, tell me what you think.

Image
Rota Track 10

Image
Rota D2

Image
Rota Gt-3

Oh, and the wheels look too big in the photoshop pics.. They are going to be 16"

Well that´s it for now. Catch ya later!

I guess I could write something new here, although there hasn´t been much going on at the garage for a while.

The cylinderhead is back on again, and I also got a new 4-2-1 stainless header for the car.

I bought some wheels too, after all I decided to go with these Dotz Shurikens in black/aluminium.
Image

On the suspension side I managed to get myself a slightly used KW Variant coil-over suspension kit, and the EnergySuspension Urethane bushings finally arrived.

I have some pics on my camera but the battery is out, and I can´t find the charger so I´ll just add them on afterwards..
