New addition to the family

Postby sstupid » Sat Nov 15, 2014 2:07 am

Just got back home with a one-owner 1988 Civic DX. Unfortunately, it's gold with the brown interior, but it was in such good shape that I couldn't pass it up. 179K miles with some slight hail damage and one cheaply replaced front left fender, but with a good solid interior that is all there and a motor that has records showing it was well maintained. I'll put up some pics, tomorrow. Not sure if anyone is even on this site, anymore. :)

Sounds nice!
And yes, people are on the site. They just lurk a good deal more - I've seen it before. :)

Weather is shit here, today. Oh well, took some pics anyway. Found the original window sticker under the passenger seat. :)

Thanks, guys! I'm so excited to have a nice EF, now. My old one ran well but was a lost cause body wise and interior wise. I bought my 91 as a beater. I didn't realize I was going to fall in love with the EFs.

I got the A/C working, yesterday. It was a R134 conversion, which doesn't usually work all that well, but I went ahead and replaced the dryer, O-rings, and compressor oil, then charged it back with R134. It gets down to about 42 degrees when it's 92 degrees outside with 90% humidity. It's not as good as the 34 degree center-vent temps from my last car with R12, but it'll do.

Awesome car, one of my favorite colors ever!

How much did you pay?

I paid $2200 for it. The A/C works pretty good for an R134A conversion. As soon as it dies, I'll convert it back to R12. I've been driving it to work every day for months, now. No problems whatsoever. I do need struts and a new steering rack, though. The steering has a lot of play in it and it's not the tie rods.

You probably need a new rack end bushing. That part usually fails before the rack itself becomes unusable. It's a $10 bushing that isn't too tough to replace.

If you get stuck in traffic you'll find your AC will get warm quick. As long as I could drive on the highway never even noticed when I switched mine to R134a (my old compressor blew). Changed jobs and sat in bumper to bumper 20 miles daily and it sucked. Now it is just a weekender and my kids drive it - so the 134a is staying.
