Battery/Alternator issues

Postby mozzles » Thu Oct 22, 2015 10:55 pm

Last week I went to start my Civic and found there to be a dead battery. Charged it up, been driving it again, but today I wanted to test with my multimeter to see whether the alternator is charging the battery or not. I replaced the alternator a few months ago so I'm not expecting it to be bad yet.

My battery reads 13.7 with engine off (not sure why this high), but with the engine started it drops to somewhere around 12.8. Is this indicative of a bad alternator? Like I said I just replaced it maybe 4-5 months ago, so I wouldn't expect it but who knows. Or possibly a bad ground somewhere? I have no idea...

Sounds like a bad alt the volts should jump up to around 14 when the car is running. it could be connections, it's worth checking but does look more like the alt is bad. I've heard bad things about the reman alts from the part stores but have never had any trouble my self.

As said above, it should be around 14 when the car is running.
