88 - 89 cluster swap into a 91.

Postby Northwesteclipse » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:47 am

So I went to the junkyard today and was directed to a 88 - 89 civic sedan lx. (One of the employees told me it was a 91, but it isn't.) I pulled the cluster out and was planning on swapping it into my 91 dx sedan. But it isn't plug and play. Can I make it work in my car?

I know it has been done, but have never seen it.
Besides that the face shape is different and won't fit right anyway.
(I'm pretty sure the Hoods are different, but not sure if they are interchangeable)

keep your eye out for a 90-91 they are out there ;)
And will an acura crx seat on the 90's era fit my 90 dx?

The cluster will fit the problem is the plugs, if you want and can then cut the wires and start to wire them directly to the panel without the plugs soldering them....but guess what will happen if you need to change it ::)

I was wondering if I took the harnesses out of the 88 - 89 civic, could I just wire those harnesses into what I got and plug it in?

no you cant do that. cabin harnesses have even the slightest difference.
think of it this way..... if it wont plug into your harness, how will putting a 88-89 harness on the cluster plug into your 90 or 91 dash harness??
