well, the dicta freewheel that came with the dyno crapped on me a couple times while pedaling, even after properly oiling it.

so i decided that it is time for it to go.

got a shimano mx-30 freewheel for cheap from a member here.

in order to do this, you need a bfw like this one here. of course it also helps if you have the freewheel removal tool (not pictured):

not a white industries fw, but this one will suffice until i get the money for said fw.

spray bombed in a ugly green. handlebar is also spray bombed. in white.

frame looks sound. not bent, cracked and/or rewelded.

here are a couple pics.

both rims are alexrims mx 22, spokes are dirty af:

tires are 20x2.25 haro multisurface 2. both are in excellent condition:

and also got this. a 44T spraybombed diamond back sprocket and a haro ryan nyquist pro model handlebar with a specialized stem:

also seat is a haro mirra pro series.

so. i think i got a score? idk, i'd like to think so

A p-lite for 40 is a deal in my book.

The alexwall rims I believe are a redline hub or a hoffman sub company . Looks like a double wall tho.
That 4 peice bar might be a bit heavy for th ride imo .

I still have my vector pro bars and uni seat stashed somewhere, but it seems light weight is no longer cool with BMX guys. I think my old Patterson, with the 185mm flights, vector bars and uni seat was well under 20lbs. Man that thing would launch like you wouldn't believe.
And will an acura crx seat on the 90's era fit my 90 dx?

well... i got scammed on the pk ripper frame.

this morning while cleaning the bike i found this:

Image

yup. is a crack on the seat tube, close to the welds. keep in mind that this is a aluminum frame. when i inspected the frame i noticed what seemed a small chip in the paint. i asked the seller if it was a chip in the paint he hesitated before responding and said yes, that was a chip in the paint. now i know why he hesitated before responding. i should've walked away.

so i took the frame to a machine shop that specializes in aluminum welding. after inspection, the owner of the shop said that the frame was fucked. here's why:

Image

some asshole decided to dremel the inner diameter of the seat tube so he was able to cram the flybike seat and post combo. as you can see the seat tube now is paper thin. the crack can be welded but it still going to crack over and over again.

to fix this the seat post must have to be replaced in its entirety, so basically is making a new frame. cost is $150

so now i'm debating what to do. i can't find the seller.
yay.

gt mallet stem. polished by hand. started with 100 grit upwards to 2000 grit.

Image

need to wait until the weekend so i can get a 3k grit sandpaper and finish this. but so far, so good. pic doesn't make justice.

Image

rim is going to be laced using black spokes and nipples, and is going to look sweet on the bike when done.

dk hi flange hub for the rim:

Image

for those that know about spoke size. it should be 182 mm., am i correct?

update. 990 brakes in my dyno compe.

how's that possible you may ask. where the f*ck is the bosses for the brake arms? the cable stop?

ah, my friends. everything is possible.

the idea isn't mine though. got it from a bmx forum.

you will need the 990 brakes, the center pull thingie. also you will need a 990 brake conversion plate, a barrel adjuster out of any side pull brake caliper, and a cable guide on your bike. if you don't have that, you might have to drill onto the frame. ew.

excuse the quality on the pics, tomorrow i'll take better ones. let's start.

so. basically the cable guide on your bike is needed to convert the barrel adjuster into a cable stop. what i did was to measure how much cable cover i needed, and cut (the cover, not the cable):

Image

install the 990 arms into the brake conversion plate and install all that in the frame. i chose to do it upside down for cleanliness.

Image

the rest is easy. you need to measure both the cabkes lenght for the center pull thingie. t would be ideal if the caliper arms cable were located behind the seat post tube, but then i would have to drill both the seat post tube and the seat post and that would have complicated stuff uneccessarily. so this would be the ideal location:

Image

here it looks better. again i excuse myself for the quality on the pics:

Image

and that's how you convert to 990 brakes in a dyno compe.

another update coming real soon.
yay.

for those interested in this build, here's an update:

Image

odyssey hazard wheel finally laced. spokes are ss sapim 14 gauge, nipples are alloy instead of brass. hub is a hi-flange sealed dk from the nineties.

soon i'll be ordering the tires. i was thinking on going odyssey aaron ross, but i finally decided for the fit faf. lighter than the odyssey, and faf stands for fast as f*ck since they roll without opposing much resistance. 20x2.10 for the rear, 20x2.25 for the front.

after i finish his build i gotta get back to the hatch. definitely.
