paint and rust prevention advice?

Post by mass13 »

Ok so I'm not tackling paint right away but a million questions are in my head about it and was hoping to get some answers. I'll make a list of my questions so they're easier to answer.

1. how do I prep the body? (what grit sand paper, wet or dry etc)
2. What type of primer? (one coat or more? )
3. How many coats overall of the color?
4. How many clear coats?
5. Suggestions on equipment to use (paint, spray gun, compressor etc)
6. How to prevent and treat surface rust

I will eventually do this to my hatch just want to be more informed on it (and maybe help others with questions) Thanks in advance to those who contribute :D

There is so much info for this online...Google is your friend ;)

Do some research, I've seen so many different opinions and methods on this from good 'ol rattle can paint jobs to full on pro-quality.
And will an acura crx seat on the 90's era fit my 90 dx?

i did paint and body for years and ive also painted my 4gs from high quality to rattle can to roll on lol.
really giving a post full of advice would be more of a headace, seeing as how theres sooooooo many different processes.
i hate to say " google it" but i would really recommened searchin it step by step that way you dont get ahead of yourself.
i and many others have givin alot of different paint and body advice on here too. my big build thread has alot of body work in it, but since im in beautiful oklahoma rust is not an issue lol.

the only efficient way to get rid of any rust is to cut it out and weld in new sheet metal. This is the only way.

Anything else will just make the rust keep coming back and spreading.
