CRX mud flaps on CIVIC?

Post by 91B16AHB »

Hey guys, just checking, I believe that the CRX and Civic rear mud flaps are slightly different, has anybody tried fitting these? worth it or not?

I always get confused on them because there are two cars that use the same rear mud flaps, is either the crx and the hatch or the hatch and the sedan. Someone clarify this....

I'm pretty sure the hatch and sedan use the same ones, so it must be the rex's that are different, which is what I suspect...I'm just wondering how different the shape of the bumpers are, because I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to mount them, I'm just wondering how they would look.
I guess I'm not sure either, but I think it's the shape of the rear bumper that matters, I believe the screw holes will line up either way. (Hatch, Sedan, Rex)

even if they do not have the exact same screw holes, they are not a hard thing to change. i do not see any real reason that you could not put them on without any real problems

since there is no definitive info...I guess I will be the guinea pig. I have a set of CRX rears on the way, I'll let you guys know how it works out, :thumbright:

I suspect that the sides will come up a little short. (they should reach up to the moulding) but I've seen a bunch of photos of rear flaps on civics where they come up about a half inch short...not a big deal.

O.K. I may be wrong about this, it may actually be the opposite, and the CRX flaps may be a little longer than the hatch/sedan considering the CRX bumper is a little bit wider (top to bottom)...I still havn't gotten them, but I will post pictures as soon as they are on, there seems to be a ton of 'em available on ebay right now, so we will see.

Damn...that took forever. I finally got my mudflaps, of course it was dark and raining, so they will have to wait until tommorow to go on, and I was right about them being a little long, it seems like they will over-lap the rear molding by about 1/4 inch...so it's confirmed.
hatch and sedan= the same
CRX= different
Wagovan= ???
I will post pictures ASAP

If that 1/4 thing can be trimmed then is good to swap them.

O.k. Mud flaps are on, but no pictures yet. Like I said the CRX bumper must be about 1/4 inch longer, so the top of the flap overlaps the molding a little, but I havn't decided if I want to trim it or not...(I most likely will)
As far as mounting is concerned, two of the three screw holes line up perfectly...the top one, and the lowest one that mounts on the inner wheel well. The middle one however does not line up. I originally thought about using self-tapping screws, but the new holes would be too close to the original ones. I guess the curve of the CRX bumper is also slightly different, but the flaps are flexible enough that by fitting a nut/bolt thru the center hole of the flap...(not through the bumper but behind it) the flap is held flush with the body....
I guess a pic would help, so I will try to get some up...
So do CRX flaps fit Hatches? Yes....sort of.
Are they easier to find than Hatch/Sedan flaps?...Unless you're Dave, Absofreakinlutely. ;)
